Hello, Crossroads Family and Community! My name is Felisha Harper. Many of you may know me as a former teacher and administrator of Crossroads Preparatory Academy where I worked 4 years before relocating to Nashville, TN. It is with great pleasure that I returned to Kansas City and the Crossroads community as the principal of CPA!
For those of you who do not know me- here is a little about myself: I am from a small military town 4 hours south of Kansas City. After high school, I attended Drury University and worked full time while raising my son. In 2012, I graduated with my bachelors degree in English and it was then that I decided to substitute within the local school district. I immediately fell in love with all things education and made the decision to move to Kansas City to begin my career after graduating with my master’s degree in education. My first year in education, I taught with the Kansas City Public School district as a 7th grade English teacher. Through a close friend I heard about Crossroads, the mission, and commitment to educational equity and was inspired to make the transition from the traditional public school sector into the charter world. In my first stint at Crossroads, I taught for three years where I served as a Grade Level Lead before moving into the Dean of Students/Athletic Director role.
Outside of teaching I love to travel, listen to music-both studio and live, watch documentaries, spend time with my family, and brunch! I love nature and hip coffee shops. I enjoy walks in my favorite Kansas City neighborhoods and hanging out with my son.
I am also deeply grateful for all the existing relationships I have within the community and look forward to building new ones.

Crossroads Prep Academy Principal
Building on our success with Crossroads Academy – Central Street and Crossroads Academy – Quality Hill, both of which have generated a groundswell of demand from the community, Crossroads Charter Schools opened Crossroads Preparatory Academy in downtown Kansas City in August 2018! Crossroads Preparatory Academy opened with 190 scholars in 7th – 10th grade.
Crossroads Charter Schools was founded with the intent of reducing the gap between the number of “high quality seats” in classrooms within the Kansas City Public School boundaries, and the number of children seeking those seats. In our short history, our students have made strong academic gains, and our school has built an excellent reputation among the community as a place of high quality instruction and innovation in learning.
The Crossroads Preparatory Academy model puts the students in the driver’s seat of their learning, anchoring personalized, project-based learning experiences within the “Downtown KC” classroom. The school offers a full complement of academically rigorous courses, electives, and extracurricular activities.
All students who graduate 6th grade from Crossroads Charter Schools have guaranteed admission into Crossroads Preparatory Academy and additional openings will be available for students across the downtown region and KCPS boundaries. With our welcoming school culture we seek to foster a diverse student population that reflects the racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic diversity of our larger community.
The founding class began courses in fall 2017 as Crossroads High School in our temporary home in the Park University Downtown Campus within Commerce Tower. Crossroads announced the name change to Crossroads Preparatory Academy at the same time we announced the permanent home for the school – The Thayer building located at 816 Broadway.
Together with our downtown community, Crossroads Charter Schools is making a significant impact in downtown Kansas City. We are excited and humbled by the opportunity to extend the opportunities of a Crossroads education to students in the upper grades.
