2022-2023 Annual Performance Report

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has released the statewide Annual Performance Reports (APRs) for the 2022-23 school year. APRs demonstrate the progress schools are making towards meeting the Standards and Indicators in the Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP 6). 

This is the second release of APRs since the start of Covid. Nationwide, test scores have dropped, with the most profound impact in urban schools. APRs do not provide an accurate picture when comparing an entire school district to individual charter schools. What’s most important is that our students are learning.

Schools receive scores on a variety of indicators including state testing scores, attendance, graduate follow up, timely submission of state/federal reports, etc. This document outlines the possible points for each indicator and how Crossroads scored on each indicator. I have summarized the results below.

For each academic achievement indicator, schools are given a MAP Performance Index (MPI)  number.  These are point values assigned to individual test scores used to calculate the MPI. Students receive a point value between 1 and 5 based on their position within the scale score range for their performance level.  

New this year, schools were scored on growth for social studies and science.  For our high school scores in Social Studies, students were compared to their performance on their 8th grade ELA tests.   For Science, high school students were compared to their performance on their 8th grade Science tests. 

Status means academic achievement on the test. Growth means any increase/decrease from the prior assessments.  Student Groups include: low-income students,  students with disabilities, English learners, and the state’s major racial and ethnic student groups. Below, I’ve outlined the strengths and growth opportunities.

Growth Opportunities

While we are pleased with the above data points, we still have much room for improvement. For the 2023-24 school year, our district and school leaders have been focused on improving professional development, instructional strategies, and student outcomes.

Additionally, schools can earn points for students who have good attendance (85% or higher). Unfortunately, we did not meet this threshold. We are creating attendance incentives and celebrations to encourage good school attendance. In addition, we will work with families of students who are struggling to get to school consistently.

Data not included

Some of our data was not included in the state’s calculation. Therefore, Crossroads earned zero points in the following area. Note that we are following up with DESE to ensure this is corrected:
  • CCR Assessments (ACTâ„¢, SATâ„¢, WorkKeysâ„¢, Accuplacerâ„¢, and ASVAB.): Our students completed the ACT and the Accuplacer last year, but that data was not included in this report.
