Karis Walker
Chief Academic Officer
Karis Walker is a passionate and equity-driven educator who currently serves as the Chief Academic Officer at Crossroads Charter Schools. With a deep belief in the power of education to transform lives, Karis has spent her career creating excellent and empowering learning experiences for students across Kansas City.
Originally from Lincoln, Nebraska, Karis earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Wheaton College in Illinois. She began her career in education through Teach for America, teaching 3rd grade in Kansas City Public Schools and later in the Raytown School District. Her early classroom experience deepened her commitment to educational equity and ignited a desire to influence systems that support all learners.
Karis completed her Master’s degree in Educational Leadership at Park University and joined Crossroads Academy – Central Street as Assistant Principal. She went on to lead the campus as Principal for three years, fostering a culture of high expectations, inclusive practices, and whole-child development. Under her leadership, Central Street thrived as a joyful, rigorous, and student-centered learning community.
Now as Chief Academic Officer, Karis oversees the academic vision and instructional strategy across all Crossroads schools. She is especially committed to ensuring that every student—regardless of background—has access to a high-quality education that affirms their identity and prepares them for future success. Her work is grounded in partnership with teachers, families, and school leaders, with a focus on instructional excellence, culturally responsive practices, and real-world learning.
Outside of work, Karis enjoys spending time with her family—especially her niece and nephew—as well as reading, running, and exploring the outdoors.
