faq1Crossroads Charter Schools prepare and inspire students
to build a better tomorrow by providing an academically rigorous K-12 education
in a creative, collaborative, community-focused environment.

Which grades do you serve?

Crossroads Charter Schools are growing each year. This school year, 2017-18, we have grades K-9th.  We will continue to add a grade each year until Crossroads Charter Schools serves K-12th grade.

What is extended school year?

We have a total of 189 school days, approximately 15 more days than your average public school. Our extended school day and year allows us to offer daily STEM, bi-weekly Visual Arts, Performing Arts, and Physical Education and multiple off site learning expeditions throughout the year.

Do you provide transportation services?
Yes. We provide bus transportation to students within our priority zone (State Line to Prospect and the Missouri River to 39th Street) and a few other locations based on need.

How much does the school cost?
As a public charter school, Crossroads Charter Schools are free and open to all students who reside within the district boundaries of Kansas City Public Schools.

How does the lottery process work?
Kindergarten students must be 5 years old on or before September 1. In order to be included in the lottery, completed applications must be received before March 1. If current students do not turn in their re-enrollment application before March 1, then they lose their priority status. All families must live within the Kansas City Public School District boundaries. Of these families those that live or work in our priority zone (State Line to Prospect and the Missouri River to 39th Street) receive priority in our enrollment lottery. We also give priority to siblings of currently enrolled students. Priority means that on our lottery day, we will first pull names of those students that qualify for priority. If there are any remaining spots after all priority students have been pulled, then we will pull from those that do not qualify for priority enrollment. Families selected for a spot through the lottery will be notified via email (or phone if no email address is given). Families have two days to accept the enrollment spot. For the waitlist, we pull names that were not selected in the lottery and place in order of drawing. Families on the waitlist will be notified of their number on the waitlist once the lottery is completed. If a spot opens up, we will contact the next family on the waitlist. Families have two days to accept the open spot. If you do not get a spot on our lottery date, please do not be discouraged. We often pull names off our waitlist over the summer and into the fall.

Do you use a particular curriculum or program?
We use a variety of high quality educational resources throughout the school. Our curriculum is aligned to the Missouri Learning Standards and encompasses Expeditionary Learning, Project Based Learning, Project Lead the Way, and Blended Learning.

How do you provide additional academic support for students?
Our co-teaching model allows teachers to work with small groups of students on a particular skill/concept at their level.  Other students may be collaborating with their peers or working on an online platform based on student need.   We also offer reading tutoring through our full time interventionist that works with students who need additional support.  Our full-time enrichment teacher works with students in grades 3rd -8th that need a more challenging curriculum and our full time special education teacher and English Language Learners teacher work with students with identified needs.  During our daily Extended Learning Program students who need remediation receive additional small group instruction while students who need acceleration participate in enrichment activities.

How do you use Downtown amenities?
At our Central Street location we use Barney Allis Plaza as our playground, at Quality Hill we use Case Park. Both schools use the Central Library as our school library. Our students also visit the Folly Theater, Quality Hill Playhouse, The Box Gallery, Science City, City Hall and other downtown businesses as an extension of the classroom curriculum.

Is there a Before and After School Program available?
Yes, we partner with three local organizations to offer this service to our families. For more information click here.

Are uniforms required?
Yes. All students must wear navy or khaki pants, shorts, or skirts and  tennis shoes every day for physical activities.  At Crossroads Academy – Central Street students are required to wear a white, yellow, or red polo shirt.  At Crossroads Academy - Quality Hill, students are required to wear a white or blue (light, royal, navy, teal) polo shirt. At Crossroads High School, students are required to wear a powder blue, navy blue, or white polo shirt.

How do I sign up for a tour and/or enroll my child?
Prospective families may sign up online for an enrollment tour through our website. Our enrollment application is available online and must be received prior to March 1 in order to be included in the lottery.

What documents do I need for enrollment?
Initially, only the basic information on the enrollment application is required. However, if you qualify for priority, you must also submit proof of residency and/or employment within our priority zone along with your enrollment application. If we do not have proof of priority, your child’s application will go into the non-priority drawing. After the lottery, families with students randomly selected for enrollment will need to submit proof of residency, immunization records, and birth certificate.
